Projects - French Creek ATAD Facility

Nanaimo, British Columbia

Dayton & Knight Ltd. undertook pre-design, detailed design and commissioning of the French Creek ATAD facility for the Regional District of Nanaimo, Canada. ATAD process was selected to conserve space, reduce costs and provide Class A biosolids product.

  French Creek ATAD is designed for a capacity of 15,000 equivalent population.  The ATAD process consists of:
  • Rotary drum thickener to thicken waste activated sludge
  • ATAD feed includes primary and secondary sludge.  
  • Five reactors in series using turborators for mixing and aeration
  • ATAD operates at 55oC to 65oC and 8 days sludge retention time.
  • Belt filter press to dewater ATAD biosolids. 

Our SCADA team provided the PLC and PC FIX DMACS programming as well as control screens and documentation to ensure the operating performance of the facility.
