Wastewater Treatment through SCADA & Automation

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is nestled at the base of the best skiing slopes in North America.  Seasonal population affects its wastewater treatment plant, subjecting it to a wide range of influent daily flows from 5,000 cubic meters in the off-season to 35,000 cubic meters when the ski slopes are open.

The plant's primary and secondary treatment processes require advanced control techniques to adjust temperature, chemical dosages, and slow rates in accordance with the variable flow rates.  To meet this objective, RMOW worked with Dayton & Knight's SCADA group to develop and implement a SCADA control system.

The new system includes full on-line controls for fail-safe operations, Adjustable Speed Drive control (ASD), and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) technology to save communications hardware costs.
