Stormwater Management - Master Drainage Plan


Fishtrap Creek, Abbotsford, BC

Fishtrap Creek originates near the City of Abbotsford, and flows south into the Nooksak River in the state of Washington. Flooding of low-lying agricultural lands by Fishtrap Creek was a frequent occurrence.

The former District of Matsqui (now included in the City of Abbotsford) engaged Dayton & Knight Ltd. to prepare a comprehensive Master Drainage Plan for the Fishtrap Creek catchment.  

The Master Drainage Plan included six phases, and resulted in a manual and guidelines for the OTTHYMO™ drainage model, photographic documentation of the creek and its tributaries, floodplain mapping, and recommendations for drainage improvements. 

The Master Drainage Plan was designed to mitigate the effects of the increased runoff caused by upland development, to increase the capacity of Fishtrap Creek, and to protect the floodplain.
