In a competition in 1986, the Resort Municipality of Whistler
chose Dayton & Knight Ltd. to design a new sewage treatment
plant that provided the municipality with a $1 million saving in
construction through the selection of a trickling filter solids
contact process over the RBC process proposed by others.
The
addition of an ATAD facility following 1990 included belt filter
press dewatering.
In 1996, construction initiated a Stage III expansion to capacity
for 52,500 people and included a
bioscrubber, odour control tower
with an expanded system capacity to provide future addition of
biological nutrient removal.
The high quality of effluent meets stringent phosphorus limits,
and the pasteurized biosolids are in continuous demand by public,
business ventures and the forestry service.
The Liquid Waste Management Plan requires the municipality to
evaluate optional disposal solutions including infiltration and
spray irrigation. |
