Pollution Control Centre

City of Chilliwack,

The initial stage of the
City of Chilliwack Pollution Control Centre was constructed in 1974.
More stringent Provincial standards and increased flows demanded
upgrading of the existing facilities.
Upgrading work was initiated by a 1996 report. The expansion program
was undertaken in stages.

1986-1990 |
Modification of screening facilities sludge digestion and addition of
sludge dewatering.

1992-1993 |
Modification of existing aeration activated sludge plant to biofilter-solids
contact facility. |
The 1992-1993 expansion increased the biological treatment capacity
to 55,000 people. The treatment plant effluent quality improvements
resulting from this upgrading and expansion resulted in <10 mg/L BOD5,
<10 mg/L SS, and <10 mg/L ammonia nitrogen.
