The Regional District of Nanaimo undertook the Stage
II Expansion of the French Creek Water Pollution Control Centre in
1995-1996 through process change from activated sludge to covered
trickling filter-solids contact (TF-SC), and the conversion of aerobic
digestion to ATAD.

Additional work added
screening, reclaimed water, waste sludge thickening, computerized
septage receiving, bioscrubber odour control for covered primaries and
headworks, and two staged packed tower wet scrubber odour control for
digesters, grit tank and septage.
The plant is automatically controlled
by SCADA to the plant PLCs. A control centre provides operator interface
through the PC/SCADA software.
